Description
I would ask that you do your own research by going to Yahoo and typing in Thomas Boles Ripley and you will start to realize what a significant find this is!  Here is a antique Ripley's Believe it or not book (the old type where Ripley drawings where used instead of actual photos) and is signed in the front of the book: To Stuffy Montgomery, a real live "Believe it or Not", from his friend Thomas Boles  June 1949. And a added piece of paper scrapbooked in also reads Stuffy:-- I have serveral more photographs that I wish to paste in this book later on, including of course one of us together. Best wishes for your trip June 27 1949  and signed again Thomas Boles. * Evidently, this was a personal copy of his Ripley's book that Thomas Boles had given to his friend Stuffy Montgomery who was one of Ripley's living Believe it or Not's! A search of Thomas Boles on yahoo revealed that he was the Superintendent of Carlsbad Carverns for 19 years and put the Caverns on the map by bringing Robert Ripley and other Stars to them starting in 1927! Inside the book there are several hand written notations by Thomas Boles pointing Believe it or not's he had personally visited and witnessed and in the back of the book are scrapbooked in possibly one-of -a-kind actual photographs of Thomas Boles with Will Rogers and Robert Ripley Himself also autographed with references as to dates and who is in the photos! Yes I meen actual photos that may be the ONLY in existance! The larger photo features Robert L. Ripley, Jim White (who discovered the Caverns in 1901) Governer John Miles of New Mexico and Thomas Boles dressed in his atire (was also called the "Colonel" by his friends as they brodcast 750 feet deep in Carlsbad Caverns on CBS radio. The photo has the original negative numbers on it and is a AGFA NITRATE Film proof! Seeing the biggest cowboy star of the day WILL ROGERS dressed down in a good suit also is impressive standing with Tom Boles! I am willing to bet this book has more historical significants and is more of a Antiques Roadshow type find if someone loves Ripley and Rare Books!Make sure you click on the photos to enlage them for better viewing, I could not photo all the writings in the book to show becuase of the photo limit, thanks. I cannot imagine a value so I will let ebayers decide and start the book with a $39.00 reserve! Best of Luck! linda
