Description
Remember Mee, written by Bertha Cordes Schuchmann, is a 269-page hardback book. It spans the years from 1818 until 1948 in narrative form. It is based on a collection of just over 200 letters that had been in the author's family possession for up to four generations. The book contains a wealth of actual letters and photographs from the time period and includes historical facts and figures. It reveals some of the 200 letters, reprinted in their true form. This book describes the hardships and events of pioneer life and the true story of the Guin family who traveled by covered wagon from Findlay, Ohio, to northeast Iowa in 1850. It gives an account of the Civil War from the soldiers, themselves. It tells about life in such "far away" places of Des Moines, the Colorado Territory, Denver, Seattle and "back home" in Ohio. It records how people talked, how their lives were filled with hardships and sadness, yet how they enjoyed days of laughter, love, hope and dreams. The narrative includes many cherished family pictures, 10 maps and drawings, a 60-page genealogy and a double-referenced index by name and location, listing 1,265 names, 35 states, 66 Iowa towns and references to 26 Civil War units. The genealogy includes the family names of Carroll, Cordes, Darr, Guin, Herriman, Hysham, Stratton, Wade, Wilcox and many more. This book is for sale by the author.
