We are a small, two person business and we have been making individually crafted items together for over a decade. When you buy this book we will be making it especially for you!We have made this journal from a  rugged dark brown leather, as you can see in the picture, the colour varies over the surface of the book. It also has small marks and creases, which add to it's rugged charm. The type of leather is known as 'Crazy Horse'. If you think that you recognise it, it's probably because you've had a pair of boots made from it, it's a favourite with footware manufacturers. It's a really tough, hard-wearing leather which resists water, even scratches can be removed by rubbing the surface with your finger. This is the sort of journal that you can throw in your rucksack without worrying too much about it. The wraparound cover encloses the paper and is held in place with thonging that we make from the same leather. It is 16cm x 11cm x 3cm (6.25 x 4.25 x 1.25 inches) and contains approximately 200 pages (400 sides) of A6 sized, unlined, recycled, paper. We permanently bind the handcut pages into this book in a traditional binding style using waxed cord. No glue is used, so the spine of the book cannot be broken.The paper that we use is a natural, off-white, oatmeal colour with faint flecks. It has a matt appearance and is slightly textured. It takes a fountain pen without 'bleeding' and is a good mid-tone for sketching.We're proud to say that our paper is 100% recycled from unbleached post-consumer waste, which saves water, energy and trees. It has won awards for it's high environmental standards and is endorsed by Greenpeace. Best of all it's a great paper of archival quality which means that it will last for hundreds of years. This is great if you're planning on leaving your words for future generations!It makes a wonderful travel journal; diary; sketchbook; notebook; etc. This is the earthy alternative to the mass produced books generally available. This makes a unique gift and is the perfect size and sturdy enough to take on your travels or out into the wild.
