Description
Pet Cremation Urn American Craft Art Pottery Just because its an urn, does it have to look like one? I think the answer is "No" and that is why I started creating these urns. Each is a work of art that will be at home in any setting. These fine urns are made in very limited quantities, so the urn you see here is the urn you will receive. The urn you are looking at is the Cuenca Urn (named for a colonial city in Ecuador). It is glazed in Sapphire Blue glaze  which is dark midnight blue where it is thinner and delicately feathered with a lighter blue where it is thicker. This size has a volume of 21 cubic inches. It is a perfect choice for a pet urn and will hold the cremated remains of an animal of up to 21 pounds. It is also a good size for a keepsake urn when only part of the ashes will be reserved. It is 4.7" in diameter, 2.9" tall with an opening of 2.9" wide.   The lid can be sealed in place easily, my preference is a clear silcone caulking (available at hardware stores), but one can also use a 5-minute epoxy or if you will want to open it at some point I recommend museum wax/putty (free upon request).  Other Choices: To see more of these urns on eBay, Click Here.  Marnipots is the nickname given by friends and customers to the ceramics of Marni Turkel. She is the creative force behind Stony Point Ceramic Design, a pottery in northern California where these fine urns are made. A noted ceramic designer, she has developed a distinctive style of understated elegance during her 40 year career in the ceramic arts. She carefully selects rich, subtle glazes that are wonderfully tactile, lending a look of softness and quiet dignity. Inspired by the shapes and textures found in nature, these urns have an enduring, timeless quality. Each is handcrafted in Sonoma County in the tradition of fine American craftsmanship. With Marni’s attention to detail, you receive consistent quality and excellent personal customer service. How they are made: All pieces are original designs produced exclusively at Sonoma Urn. All of the work – from designing and making the molds, mixing the glazes, firing the kilns – is done at the pottery. The urns are slip-cast of stoneware clay, hand finished, fired, glazed and then fired a second time to a high temperature. The glazes are hand dipped, not sprayed. It takes more time and skill to hand dip, but it gives subtle variations in the glaze so that each piece has its own character. Choosing the right sized urn: Because people and pets come in a variety of sizes, Sonoma Urn Company offers a range of urn sizes, so you can choose the most appropriate urn for your needs. Urn sizes are given in cubic inches and refer to the capacity to hold a given volume of cremated remains. A general rule of thumb in determining the necessary volume is one pound of body weight produces a bit less than one cubic inch of ash after cremation. If you have any questions about sizing, feel free to contact me. Shipping: The charge for shipping this item is $8.95 and includes insurance. Shipments are made via FedEx and USPS. Next Day and 2nd Day shipping are available on request as are shipments to AK, HI, and PR. Special shipping requests will be billed for the difference between the actual cost and what the same package would cost to go from coast to coast.
