Description
MacLeods of Dunvegan (Bannatyne MacLeods Scotland Clan) Offered for sale is a RARE genealogy work on the MacLeod clan of Scotland, full title: ”The MacLeods of Dunvegan, From the Time of Leod to the End of the Seventeenth Century”. Written/compiled by the Rev. Canon R.C. MacLeod of MacLeod, and privately published/printed for The Clan MacLeod Society in 1927 (date on title page). No place of publication specifically indicated, but most likely bound and printed in Scotland. Small contemporaneous bookstore sticker on inside of rear cover stating “Heraldry Today” in London. This book bears what appears to be the signature of one of the MacLeods on front free endpaper, and the name appears to be Jina W. MacLeod, but I cannot be sure of the first name and middle initial. Dark reddish-brown cloth binding. Book measures about 6” by 8 ¾”, and contains 220 numbered pages, including the index. A total of 25 black & white plates throughout the book picturing castles, artifacts, and individuals. With frontispiece of Norman, the Twenty-Third Chief of MacLeod, in all his regalia!! Book is in very nice condition except for the following relatively minor flaws: binding a bit worn, with corners slightly bumped, and short tear at juncture of spine and lower front cover, but not too obvious. Slight wear to top and bottom of spine. Spine is slightly cocked, but binding is TIGHT and I have collated the book for completeness: all pages and plates present and in nice condition. THIS IS A RARITY on the MacLEOD CLAN, and is usually offered for outright sale at over $180.00.
