Through the following years, the book became a classic, and rare.   Seeking to allow a new generation of citizens and friends of Grimes County to share the enjoyment of the book, in 2007, members of a non-profit entity, The River of Culture, ROC, sought to re-publish the classic in its original form, without changes. In this endeavor, they found like-mindedness among the membership of the current Grimes County Historical Commission.           Accordingly, along with representatives of their respective organizations, Chairman of the Grimes County Historical Commission, Jim Westmoreland, and President of the ROC, Nancy Perry, engaged a series of meetings to work out a means of bringing to fruition their common endeavor. Thanks to cooperation and official sanction from the County Judge, Betty Shifflet, and the Commissioner’s Court of Grimes County, the Historical Commission was able to afford the River of Culture the opportunity of undertaking the republication.   Though the River of Culture is the publisher of the present volume, the Grimes County Historical Commission retains the copyright.
