Description
Great 1929 STOCK MARKET CRASH Black Monday Newspaper **     ABSOLUTELY GENUINE NEWSPAPER FROM 1929. NOT A REPRINT ! The Great Wall Street Stock Market Crash which ushered in the Great Depression.  Historic Newspaper Report. This is the complete, genuine issue of THE TIMES-PICAYUNE newspaper from New Orleans, Louisiana, dated October 29, 1929 See the photos for the nice, bold, and historic banner headline on this issue which reads: "BANKERS ACT TO HALT TERRIFIC CRASH IN STOCK MARKET" There is also a nice subhead reading: "Millions Lost in New Stampede of Selling Outlook Less Gloomy" with additional one column heads which report the financial disaster, including: "Prices Slump in Chicago With Burst in Selling in Second Largest Turnover in History" "Financiers Show Alarm At Break"  "Prices Drop $10 to $60 Per Share, Closing at Bottom; Traders in New York Show Strain" with more. It is quite rare--and desirable--to find the words "Crash" and "Stampede" in the headlines. These are among the words collectors want in a newspaper reporting this financial disaster, making them nice for display. One can imagine what the reader of this newspaper thought the morning he purchased this very newspaper. Little did he or she know the years of economic gloom--now known as the Great Depression--which would befall the nation. Did this reader lose his or her job in the coming months like so many others? How has such an issue survived thru the years? This issue was kept by a library in a bound volume since 1929 along with other issues of the same year, used by patrons and safely stored. We purchased this issue when it & others were likely microfilmed for posterity, or perhaps when the issue was deemed out of scope for that particular library. We now make it available--once again--to the general public. A great item for display. This issue is complete with all 30 pages, is irregular at the blank spine margin but is otherwise in very nice, clean condition  (see photos). Every newspaper we have in our two million issue inventory, and have sold for the past 32 years, is guaranteed to be absolutely genuine.
