Description
Align your corporation or foundation with the UN Millennium Development Goals--Help MAHENDI eliminate poverty, one woman at a time.  Sponsor a medical training center for nurses and mid-wives in Nepal.  This listing represents an opportunity to make a donation to MAHENDI to fund a charitable program and the costs necessary to implement the program--This listing oes not represent an actual sale item.  Charitable contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Who We Are MAHENDI is a registered U.S. 501(c)3 Non-Profit organization that promotes maternal healthcare in developing countries.  The Project: Establishing a Training Center for Skilled Birth Attendants MAHENDI's Safe Motherhood Initiative establishes a training center in Nepal to train nurses and mid-wives in live-saving emergency obstetric care (known as Skilled Birth Attendant training). Trainees will bring emergency medical skills to rural communities in the Himalayas, and will further educate communities to prevent maternal death and reproductive disability.    This project is aligned with UN Millennium Development Goal #5: To reduce maternal mortality by 75%, & to ensure maternal healthcare is accessible  to all. Preventing Maternal Death:  Why This Project is Important More than 500,000 women die each year due to maternal complications; approximately 15 million women are left disabled by pregnancy. When women die, the impacts affect families, communities, and lead to a loss of $7.5 billion in global economic productivity.  Maternal death and reproductive disability are largely preventable when Skilled Birth Attendants are accessible and used by rural populations.  The Demand: Training Skilled Birth Attendants Despite international development efforts, one of the primary reasons developing countries, such as Nepal, struggle to reduce maternal death is due to the lack of trained Skilled Birth Attendants to meet national-level maternal healthcare needs.  Nepal has only 400 trained Skilled Birth Attendants, however experts assert that 5,000 are needed to meet national healthcare needs by 2012. Highlights - The Skilled Birth Attendant Training Center will: Launch in a committed partnership between MAHENDI and the Nepal Ministry of Health; Establish the training center at a public hospital in a high-priority geographic location where there is a demonstrated need; Increase Nepal's capacity to train Skilled Birth Attendants by 20% of the country's current annual capacity; Enable the country to better meet national-level maternal healthcare needs, and effectively reduce maternal death & reproductive disability. For Corporate Backers & Private Foundations MAHENDI is a registered 501(c)3 Tax-Exempt non-profit organization.  Press opportunities for national- and international-level stories resulting from funding of this project may be discussed with MAHENDI.  Please visit www.mahendi.org for further organizational information, EIN & IRS registration, and financial information.
