Description
ANOTHER NO RESERVE AUCTION, HIGH BID WINS! This auction is a bit unusual, but hopefully some fellow basset hound owners can relate. Our story began on election night, when our baby, MAGGIE, poked her head out from under the covers and vomited profusely. For those who have children you may know what projectile vomiting is--well her contents flew a good two feet. She was taken to the vet--"oh, nothing wrong, probably a virus". As soon as Maggie gets home from the vet she has three more violent episodes of vomiting. This time, since she has no food in her stomach, her vomit is grass and bile. Upon her return to the vet, a barium study and repeated x-rays confirmed a blockage. So off she went last evening to the emergency vet clinic where she underwent an upper endoscopic exam. This was inconclusive, so our baby Maggie was cut open for exploratory surgery. Her stomach lining and 2 foot of intestine were grossly inflamed--see the pics. Removed was the culprit--AN ACORN. The charge for this--$2458.26, plus an additional $700 for the previous x-ray and barium study.Maggie came home this morning and is recuperating on the sofa!! She will pull through, but please always follow through on your instincts when you think your pup is sick. Had we not insisted on bringing Maggie back for the barium studies, we might have lost her.The purpose of this auction is to bring awareness to fellow basset owners, and truly all dog owners, how important it is to follow your gut instincts!I will keep viewers informed of Maggie's recovery.MAGGIE IS DOING WELL. SHE IS RECOVERING NICELY, HER APPETITE HAS RETURNED AND SHE IS BEGINNING TO MOVE AROUND WITHOUT TOO MUCH DISCOMFORT!MANY THANKS TO ALL WELL WISHERS!November 12Maggie continues to improve...I added a couple of photos above. She is almost back to a full diet and her activity level is 110%. Again, many thanks for all the well wishes!!!NOVEMBER 13MAGGIE HAS HAD A BID OF A SET BACK, SHE STARTED VOMITING TODAY. SHE'S BACK ON A CLEAR DIET--HOPEFULLY WE WILL NOT HAVE TO SCOPE HER AGAIN--BUT VET SAYS IT MAY BE NECESSARY.November 14Well it has been one week since Maggie's ordeal and besides yesterday episode of vomiting, she is doing remarkably well!I have uploaded another photo depicting her energy level! Thanks again for all the well wishes. Staples should be removed on Monday if all continues to go on schedule.NOVEMBER 16Maggie is doing absolutely wonderful!! She is out romping around in the woods, fortunately the majority of our leaves have fallen--HIDING THE ACORNS! I took a couple of photos and uploaded them from this morning's walk.Again, many thanks for all the prayers and well wishes!! We would have been beside ourselves if we had lost her.NOVEMBER 20MAGGIE GETS HER STAPLES REMOVED!!!! SHE CONTINUES TO THRIVE, NO FURTHER PROBLEMS--OTHER THAN HER INCESSANT DESIRE TO PUT EVERYTHING IN HER MOUTH.NOVEMBER 21Maggie had her staples removed this morning--38 total. When we walked into the vet clinic, the receptionist leaned over and said "Hello Maggie, how are you?" and Maggie let out the loudest and longest accusatory howl I have ever heard. It was hilarious. She is home and fast asleep--who would have known staple removal was so exasperating--ha, ha.Again, I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and well wishes!I uploaded a couple of new photos from this AM--playing with "wet nurse mom" Annabelle Raven Lee"DECEMBER 1Miss Maggie is doing well, she is still experiencing the occasional vomiting episode so we are continuing to monitor her outdoor consumption!!Our holiday experienced as a setback as one of our elder dogs--a 14 year old border collie/australian sheperd mix suffered a stroke. She has improved some but is requiring extensive hands on care so I will not be on the computer for a while.Hoping that all of you and yours will have a wonderful Holiday Season!
